About us

Microsol is a social business dedicated to associate institutions and NGO experts in projects that improve the life quality of thousands of people affected by poverty and climate change in rural areas of Latin America. We specialize in projects that are capable to be sustained over time, guarantee outcomes and integrate all the actors involved in the process.

Microsol is also able to provide services on different areas of expertise related to Latin America but also in other intervention areas through partnerships.

How we work?

We believe that every human being should have access to life quality. The key for solving worldwide problems, such as poverty, relies on the particularities and knowledge of every human group and we value this idea. Microsol works with local project developers, local authorities, businesses and families to ensure that they are all part of a synergy process towards progressive change. That is for us, how true development should be defined for everyone.

Microsol's goal for quality is reflected in our local and world wide recognition. We work with the most recognized local institutions, making us known experts in the local community.  We work with the Gold Standard, leading certification body, internationally known for being the most demanding.

We are also partners of the Global Alliance for Clean Cook stoves, a public-private partnership that seeks to save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women, and protect the environment by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions.

Our Challenges

A challenge:

Cooking on Traditional cookstove is one of the leading causes of death in the developing countries.

4 million premature deaths occur every year due to smoke exposure from these methods during cooking. Women and children are the most affected. Chronic exposure to smoke from traditional cooking practices is one of the world’s biggest – but least well-knownunknown – killers.

A solution: Improved cookstoves!

To tackle this issue, Microsol developed the Qori Q’oncha program in Peru, and later, the Ustil Naj program in Mexico. They are both based on the replication and sustainability of improved cookstoves in rural areas. Utsil Naj also includes water filters technology.

Clean technologies

First present the improved cookstove technology

Improved cookstoves are simple and ecofriendly technologies, with two main features: the chimney evacuates the smoke outside the home, and the combustion chamber ensures a higher thermal efficiency than traditional systems.

Now introduce the water filter

This technology enables the populations to have direct access to safe water. This project reduces the amount of CO2-emitting fuel consumed for boiling water by using purified water thanks to the filter.

The Qori Q’oncha program, Peru

Currently Qori Q’oncha is the most advanced in the world: 106,056 improved cookstoves have been installed and it benefits 493,277 people from rural communities living in poverty.

It has generated three carbon credits issuances, corresponding to USD 5.5 million given to the partners for the durability of their projects. It currently includes projects of 6 projects developers in nine regions of Peru: Piura, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Huánuco, Cusco, Huancavelica, Arequipa, Moquegua y Tacna.

The Utsil Naj program, Central America

After the success of the Peruvian program Qori Q’oncha, Microsol decided to expand its activities into Central America. Thus, in 2012, Utsil Naj was born. This program is designed for Mexico and Central America and includes appropriate technologies such as improved cookstoves and water filters.

It currently harbors projects of 11 projects developers in f our countries: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. It includes more than 26 000 improved cookstoves and benefits about 100,000 people living in poverty.
