Beyond Carbon Offsetting

Let´s go beyond offsetting carbon emissions, and let’s contribute to reducing our global footprint instead.

HOW DOES IT WORK

1

While some of our emissions can be absorbed by Earth’s natural systems (oceans, wetlands and forests), these cannot keep up with the drastic increase in emissions produced in recent decades.

We need to balance our emissions and our planet’s absorption capacity, by reducing global emissions and protecting Earth’s natural systems.

2

Businesses and individuals who are making efforts to reduce their own carbon footprint can fund projects that reduce carbon emissions elsewhere. By purchasing carbon credits you will be funding actions to help keep emissions in our atmosphere balanced and thus prevent irreversible damage caused by climate change.

3

Carbon credits are generated by projects that reduce, remove or capture emissions from the atmosphere, such as reforestation, renewable energy or energy efficiency. Each carbon credit purchased represents one tonne of CO2 kept from reaching the atmosphere.

4

When you invest in carbon credits, you’re making a financial contribution that allows carbon reduction projects to be sustainable and to keep generating benefiting for our communities and our planet.

Complementing our personal reduction efforts with contributing to restore our planets natural systems is the only way to balance global GHG emissions.

AND WHAT DOES 1 TONNE OF CO2 EQUAL?

6,060 km by car (Citroen Picasso type)
250 trips between
Paris - Marseille by high-speed (215,750 km)
2 return trip
Paris - Berlin by airplane (economy class)

BEYOND LOWERING CO2 EMISSIONS

Contribute Microsol
In addition to the environmental impacts generated, Microsol's projects have profound social and economic impacts on the lives of rural communities in Latin America.
Contribute Microsol
Our energy efficient projects benefit these communities by giving them access to sustainable energy. In turn, it reduces the wood consumption and keeps hundreds of thousands of tonnes of CO2 emissions from being released every year.
ODS Sutainable development Microsol
Thus, we implement projects that provide added benefits for rural communities in Latin America and contribute to multiple of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CONSIDER THIS...

The purchase of 10 carbon credits represents:

cocina

The installation or maintenance of 1* improved cookstove.

familia

5** community members benefited, 2** of which are children.

tree

7.3* tonnes of firewood saved.

Additionally, installing or maintaining 1 improved cookstove helps families save on average $8.14 USD on fuel a month and having to collect less firewood saves them 63.22 hours a year.

*An improved cookstove lasts up to 5 years

**These averages are taken from the last verification period (2015-2017) of the Qori Q’oncha programme.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

After your contribution through the purchase of carbon credits, what happens to your money, and how does it make a difference?

Your contribution will help fund energy efficiency projects that avoid the emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

Of the carbon funds, approximately:
80%
covers the costs of equipment, deployment of teams on site for the installation, maintenance, and training of the families.
15%
covers the costs related to monitoring, certifying, following-up and promoting the project.
5%
is used for administrative support and management of the projects.

READY TO CONTRIBUTE?

If you don´t wish to contribute based on a volume of CO2 equivalent, you can donate directly to our community projects. Your donations will go towards supporting existing projects that need assistance or developing new innovations in communities we work with.
